Be Part of the Research

  1. Snap a clear photo: Take a clear photo of the belly of the manta ray – scientists will use this ‘fingerprint’ to identify who it is.
  2. Share your photo: Send your photo to project.manta@usc.edu.au. Don’t forget to include the date, time, location, behaviour, and photographer’s name.
  3. Get your results: You’ll find out if your manta has been spotted before and what its name is. If it’s a brand-new individual, you get to name it!
  4. Celebrate: Give yourself a high five – you’ve just contributed to real manta ray research and helped protect these ocean giants through citizen science.
